Jim LeeJim Lee, Ph.D., P.E., PTOE

Owner/CEO
Phoenix, AZ

Jim started Lee Engineering in 1988 in an attempt to provide more in-depth traffic engineering analysis and design than what was typically found in consulting firms. His belief was (and still is) that a firm whose engineers focus on one specialty area rather than try to provide many services will provide that specialty service with a higher quality. Jim has been a safety advocate for over 45 years and is passionate about making our transportation system safer for all road users. His career began with what was then the Oklahoma Highway Department, where, as District Traffic Engineer and Traffic Planning and Safety Engineer, he realized the importance of good traffic engineering. His 14-year public sector experience continued as City Traffic Engineer in Amarillo, Texas and Director of Transportation in Beaumont, Texas. Jim believes in the Total Quality Management approach of trying to prevent errors rather than focusing on correcting them. He frequently reminds our engineers to “do the right thing – the right way – the first time”.

When he is not working, Jim enjoys spending time with his wife, three sons (and their wives), and eight grandchildren.
